The Whitecaps are coming off an extremely narrow 1-0 victory over the league’s bottom team DC United. The Caps’ only goal came off a well-taken spot kick from the little Brazilian Camilo Sanvezzo. The penalty was drawn when Matt Watson was tripped up by the hands of DC keeper Bill Hamid. Vancouver is an impressive 5-1-1 in their last 7 matches, taking a total of 16 points out of a possible 21.

20130630-205322.jpgThe Whitecaps did not play their greatest match ever against DC United. This may have something to do with the questionable starting eleven that was put out by Martin Rennie. The Whitecaps must all try to get back to full health so the starting lineup can be as strong as possible. This is especially important in this upcoming week with SKC on Wednesday and the Sounders on Saturday. The Caps were strong defensively in this match, and Carlyle Mitchell and Johnny Leverón had particularly good performances. Attacking wise, Vancouver struggled and Kenny Miller, Camilo and Russell Teibert did not have a very good match.

    Post Match Quotes

    Martin Rennie:

“I thought after about 20 minutes we became stronger in the first half and I thought we put really good pressure on the opposition,” Rennie commented. “I thought we pressed really hard. Overall, I thought it was a really hard working performance, a well-deserved win. It’s our second away win in the last three games, in the last seven games we’re 5W-1L-1D so we’re on a really good run at the moment. We’ve got confidence and it showed well today.”
