The Whitecaps will be back in town to play at BC Place for the first time in over a month. This time around, they will be taking on Rocky Mountain side Real Salt Lake.
These two sides have met 5 times since 2011, with the Caps winning 2, losing 2 and drawing 1 throughout all of those matches. In their last game, the Whitecaps managed to get their first road point of 2013 away to the Earthquakes, that match finished 0-0. Although, the Caps were extremely fortunate to not suffer a late loss to the Quakes, as there was a fanatic finish to the match in their penalty area.
RSL have not had very much success on the road thus far this 2013 MLS season. They have played a total of 4 games away from home and have only managed to win 1 of those. Meaning they have only recorded a total of 3 points out of a possible 12, the Caps will definitely hope to take advantage of this.
The Caps will have fantastic support behind them on Saturday as fans are very excited to have their team back playing at home. Expect a sell-out crowd, or at least an attendance close to the maximum this weekend and be prepared for a great game.
Keys To The Match
- Stay Focused: Despite the players being excited to be playing at home once again, they must stay focused on the game, not the crowd.
- Counter Attack: With all the speed in the Caps’ side, most of their scoring chances might root from counter attacking.
- Defend Properly And Strong: As many know, RSL have many talented attackers, Alvaro Saborio in particular. The Whitecaps’ defenders must mark tightly on corners and set pieces and avoid fumbling around with the ball in their box.
Projected Starting Lineup
With the Caps’ home field advantage and RSL’s poor 2013 road record taken into account, my final prediction is:
Whitecaps 2 – RSL 1
Where: BC Place in Vancouver, Canada.
When: 1:00pm PST on Saturday, April 13th.
How: Broadcasted on TSN and MLS Live.
