The Whitecaps are coming off a disappointing 2-1 loss to the Houston Dynamo on Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium. This was the Caps first defeat of the season and also their first away match of the season. Before Whitecaps fans start sounding the alarms and calling this a disaster, let’s review some candidates for player of the week.

Darren Mattocks

Darren Mattocks netted the only goal for the Caps and it was brilliant I might add. Mattocks create a number of chances for the Whitecaps, unfortunately only scoring one of them. Due to this I have nominated him for player of the week.

Camilo Sanvezzo

Camilo came off the bench and made an instant impact on the pitch, he created many chances as well. Most notably, he came as close as it gets to scoring a freekick when the ball hit the post and went across goal to hit the other post and somehow stay out.

Erik Hurtado

Erik Hurtado got his first start as a Whitecap and actually played pretty well too. Hurtado set up the teams only goal by getting the (unofficial) assist on Mattocks’ wonder-strike.
