20130215-094424.jpgThe Vancouver Whitecaps have become the most likely to sign ex-EPL midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker. NRC has turned down offers from the likes of West Bromwich Albion and Turkish sides Bursaspor and Kasimpasa in hopes of landing a deal in Vancouver.

NRC has supposedly been very impressed by the way Rennie runs the club, his agent, Richard Trafford, made this statement:

“Nigel and I were very impressed with Martin’s respect for players and the ethos of the club he works for. He is a coach who we would like to work with long term. He respects the restrictive MLS regulations and is a modern breed of football professional.”[1]

The Portland Timbers, who showed the initial interest in Reo-Coker, own his Discovery Rights but were not able make a good enough offer to him. If the Whitecaps want to sign NRC, they will have to negotiate with the Timbers first, although, Portland has been in no rush to sort anything out. The Whitecaps have put a deadline of Friday, February 15th at noon for the deal to go through.

Richard Trafford also said:

“Yes it is true this process has been extended but Vancouver have been above and beyond patient. MLS are fully aware of this. I personally think rule changes should be implemented as soon as possible to stop this happening again.

Nigel wants to become a Whitecaps player.”[1]

Reo-Coker would be a great fit, at 28 years of age, to play along side Gershon Koffie and Jun Marques Davidson in the Whitecaps midfield. NRC is a midfielder who is also able to play outside back in the situation that YP Lee ever needs a game off.
