The Vancouver Whitecaps have acquired attacking center midfielder Daigo Kobayashi. He is 29 years old and was born in Fuji, Shizuoka, Japan. He was picked up from the J-League club Shimizu S-Pulse, whom he made 29 appearance for. Kobayashi has made one appearance for the Japanese international squad in 2006 against Trinidad and Tobago as he was substituted into the match in the 56th minute. In the last year, Daigo has scored two goals in 25 matches and although he is not known for netting a lot of goals he will bring a creative attacking element to the Caps line up.

Coincidently, Kobayashi and Whitecaps midfielder Jun Marques Davidson used to be teammates for the club Omiya Ardija in 2006 in the J-League. Davidson praised Kobayashi saying: “He’s a very technical player, I think he could be one of the most technical players in MLS.

“I know, and a lot of people know, what he can do. He can finish the game. He can score. He can give assists. He has great accuracy on corners and free kicks.

“Hopefully, we can see him at his best.”
